I’m not sure about you, but one of my most googled topics when planning for a trip is the food! While I reside in the metro Detroit area [and therefore may be a bit biased], I have loved exploring the city and all the great food options.
In hopes that more people venture to the city, even if just for a weekend, I thought it would be helpful to share some of my favorite places to dine.

1. San Morello
While you may be skeptical at first because the menu is not by any means extensive, what it does have is delicious food. Southern Italian cooking inspires the chef, which is clear when you taste his wood fire pizza or house made pasta. San Morello sits on Woodward Ave. in the center of the hustle and bustle that includes shopping and restaurants. Sitting outside when the weather is nice also allows for great people watching!
2. Parc
This is the place for dinner with ambiance. In the heart of Campus Martius sits this little Detroit eatery whose goal is to “redefine contemporary Detroit cuisine.” They have seasonal menus in which they try to bring those authentic Midwest flavors to their menu. While you’re enjoying a glass of wine with your dinner, you can watch the bustling center of Detroit.
3. Ottava Via
Between the arancini as an appetizer [those are fried risotto balls stuffed with cheese and prosciutto in case you were curious], the multiple pizza options, or my personal favorite – the Tuscan braised short ribs, you will not leave hungry!
4. Detroit Shipping Co.
If you are looking for a unique place, this food hall and beer garden is where you should be. You can get burgers or ice cream, but they also have Caribbean jerk chicken, Nepalese dumplings and Bangkok street food. This food hall has six restaurants, all cooking up street foods from around the world and three bars serving unique cocktails. You can also check the website to see what nights there will be live music playing.
5. Prime and Proper
If you are aiming for a fancy night out, this is your place. P+P is a luxury steakhouse in a historical 1912 building that the restaurant has made modern while still ensuring some historical elements are preserved. The food is outstanding, but it’s of note that they take pride in their hospitality and therefore have impeccable service.
