One of the highlights of our summer was sailing down the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia with Yacht Getaways. If it were up to us, we would live on a boat and sail around the world forever. (Okay, I guess it is up to us, but like, if we could afford it, haha.) So sailing for a week along the Adriatic Sea was basically a dream come true.
Croatia is such a beautiful country and the best part about sailing along the coast was getting to experience all of the different tiny islands. Each island has so much to offer, and our captain knew all of the best bays and swimming spots, so we were really able to get the most out of our experience.
The route for the Yacht Getaways Croatia trip starts in Trogir, right outside of Split, and from there you get to sail to Šolta, Hvar, Šćedro, Korčula, Mljet National Park, Elaphiti Islands, and finish the trip in Dubrovnik. The trips are seven days and seven nights, so you spend each evening and night at port on a new island, and then you wake up and basically spend the whole day at sea and swimming in the absolutely stunning waters of the Adriatic. Honestly, I’ve seen a lot of really pretty blue water in my life, and the waters here were some of the most mesmerizing and magical waters I’ve ever seen.
Yacht Getaways takes care of just about everything for you, so you can leave all of your worries behind and just enjoy a week relaxing at sea. Breakfast and lunch are included every day on the boat, and your host will likely get really creative in the kitchen making delicious meals that will leave you ready to swim and paddle board and dance in the sun all day. You can also easily pick up snacks from the stores when you’re at port, so if you’re like me, you can always have chocolate on hand.
With Yacht Getaways you get to sail on your own catamaran. Their boats hold up to eight people, so it makes for a much more unique and secluded experience. They also cater to an older crowd, think late twenties and up, so their boats aren’t as crazy as some of the other sailing companies out there. We really appreciated that, because we’re not really into partying (I mean we enjoy a good time, like we’ll dance and have fun, but we also like watching Netflix and being in bed by 10, haha).
We loved making new friends with the six other people on our boat! We all got along so well that we left saying we were going to make it a yearly vacation together! It’s such a fun environment and an awesome opportunity to make new friends with people from all around the world. However, you could also get a together with seven of your best friends or family members and all book your own boat together.
The rooms are a little small, but each room has it’s own closet and bathroom. However, being completely honest, the bathroom is very small and the “shower” is actually the sink faucet that you can pull out and hold over your head. But there are showers and bathrooms on the islands that you can use at port each day. The main area on the boat includes a kitchen, dining table, and seating area that is quite comfortable, so there is definitely enough room to feel at home. The spacious exterior is great for laying out during the day or enjoying the sunset in the evening.
Each yacht has a paddle board and snorkel gear, so you can spending a lot of time playing in the water is a must. Not to mention, you can jump and dive and flip off your yacht as many times as you’d like.
We loved getting to experience all of the little islands. We loved the swimming in the crystal clear waters of Hvar, hiking to the hidden cave of Odysseus on Mljet, and wandering through the adorable town of Korcula. And obviously the red roofs of Dubrovnik were absolutely stunning.
Each island has its own charming personality and culture, along with unique houses, alleyways, and stores. At some of the stops on the much smaller islands, like Šolta and Mljet National Park, there are only one or two restaurants. So, as part of a way to support the local fishers and restaurants, your Captain and Host go ahead and make reservations for you at a specific restaurant. Be ready to eat a lot of seafood, because well, you’re on the sea.
Every day we got to lay in the sun as the boat cruised through the sea. Whether you wanted to read a book, take a nap, or lay in the sun, you could sit back, relax, and enjoy the cool sea breeze whipping through your hair. And make sure you watch the sunset every night, because there is nothing quite like seeing the water light up and the sky turn to all sorts of different shades of orange, pink, purple, and blue. I’m not sure exactly what heaven will be like, but I hope it’s something like cruising along Croatia with Yacht Getaways.
Yacht Getaways also offers trips around Greece, Italy, and the Caribbean. We are anxiously planning our next sailing trip, so if you’re looking to fill up a yacht with Yacht Getaways, we’re more than willing to volunteer as tribute!
Thank you Yacht Getaways for one of the most incredible experiences of our lives!
