With airlines charging a fortune for checked bags these days, traveling as light as possible as basically become our mantra. Not only has traveling with only our carry-on saved us a lot of money, but it has also made us realize how convenient it is to have all of your belongings at your fingertips when you’re in the air. Like is there anything worse than feeling the need to brush your teeth and realizing your toothbrush is trapped in your checked bag? Personally, I don’t think so. So, to make your summer travels a little easier, we created a list with some of the extra things we’ve found we love carrying on the plane with us. But also, obviously don’t forget to pack your toothbrush and toothpaste in your carry-on.

Also, with Prime Day being tomorrow, Tuesday, July 11 (and Cow Appreciation Day btw, so don’t forget to go to Chick-fil-a too, haha), here are a few of our favorite travel items to put in your cart while you’re doing your Amazon shopping:

Face wipes: There are few things worse than that dirty, gross feeling after you’ve been flying on a plane. I love to be able to pull out these organic and paraben-free wipes to clean my hands and face from dirt, old make-up, and environmental toxins.

Sunscreen: We try our best to find clean and natural products that actually work, and this Garden Goddess Sunscreen is one of our favorites so far, because it’s clean and it actually works. Since we don’t like to waste too much time between the airport and exploring, I always have this in my carry-on, so I can apply it in the Uber or train on the way to our hotel, and then we can head straight to the beach.

SneakersI hate when my feet get uncomfortable in my shoes on the plane, but I love to be able to run off the plane and straight into the city. So I always wear flip-flops or sandals on the plane and then quickly change into my sneakers, so we can roam around the city. These Jack Purcell’s are super comfortable and fit easily in my carry on.

Polaroid Camera: Some of our favorite keepsakes from our trips are our polaroid pictures. They’re fun and unique, and make it so we actually have printed pictures (insert monkey covering eye emoji here, haha. I’ll get better about printing pictures one day.) The best part is it’s on sale for Prime Day! Don’t forget to buy extra film, because you’re going to go through that faster than you think.

Snacks: Airplane snacks just don’t really do it for me. Somehow I’m always still hungry after those tiny bags of peanuts or pretzels, so I never get on a plane without my own stash of snacks. Since there are plenty of things about flying that already mess with your body, we try to stay aways from food with gluten, dairy, or refined sugar while we’re in the air. Some of our favorites are dried mangosLarabars, and banana chips.

Water bottle: Dehydration is real, and those tiny little water cups definitely do not provide enough water. I love carrying my Swell water bottle with me, because it keeps my drink cold, and it’s easy to fill up after we’ve gone through security.

Bathing suit: Because it’s for your “summer” carry-on. And if your bags get lost, you will not want to be without it.

Book: It doesn’t ever seem like there is enough time to just sit down and read a book anymore, so I love using my time on an airplane to take a second for myself and read. I linked my favorite book I’ve read so far this summer, and Amazon is offering 40% off Kindle Unlimited during Prime Day. Or, if you sign up for Audible, you can get your first two books free.

Sweatpants: There are few things worse than being too cold or too hot on a plane. I love to dress based on the weather outside and then bring a sweater or sweatpants in my carry-on. That way I can easily throw sweats on if it get too cold while we’re in the air, but I can take them off right before landing, so I’m not dying of heat once I get off the plane and outside.

Wired Ear Phones: Wireless head phones are all the rage right now, but if you want to watch any of the movies on the plane, those probably are not going to work for you. We suggest getting noise cancelling ones, because, well, let’s be real…we all know planes get loud.
