A few weeks ago, we went back to Greece, but this time, we went to sail around the Cyclades! We had already been to Mykonos, Santorini, and Milos, but we were excited to explore new islands in the Cyclades. We’ve fallen in love with Greece and each of the islands so much, that we keep finding ourselves booking flights to go back. After watching Mamma Mia 2, we even made a goal to buy a house in Greece one day. Dream big friends. So, when Yacht Getaways invited us to sail with them around the Greek Isles, we couldn’t say yes fast enough!
We sailed the Dalmatian coast in Croatia with Yacht Getaways last summer and around Antigua with them earlier this year, and honestly, Yacht Getaways is our favorite vacation! You get to see and explore new places each evening and you get to spend all day sailing on a beautiful catamaran. It’s the best of both worlds—island life and boat life. You also get to meet new people and swim in the most beautiful waters we’ve ever seen.
Each boat has eight guests, a skipper, and a host. It’s a fun way to meet new people and make new friends. This time, we went with our friends, League Travels, and it was such a fun experience sailing with friends. We would definitely recommend booking a trip together with friends or family. It’s so special creating new memories and sharing experiences with the people you love. You can even get a group of eight together and book the entire boat.
We also love how the skipper and host are always so kind and accommodating. They’re total experts, so they make sure that you get the absolute best experience and see the best spots on each island and out at sea, which is amazing because you never feel like you’re missing anything. We’ve had three different sets and they’ve all been so amazing that we know Yacht Getaways only hires the best.
The Greece Cyclades route starts in Paros, then you go to Anti-Paros, Koufonisia, Mykonos, Naxos, Syros, Kea, and ends on the mainland near Athens. Sailing with Yacht Getaways is a great way to see a bunch of different Greek islands in a short amount of time. And you don’t have to worry about catching ferries or planes. You just wake up in the morning and start sailing to the next island!
One of the things we loved most about this trip was getting to see less popular and well-known islands in the Cyclades. So many of these islands are small and hard to get to or have very limited flight and ferry options, so it was an amazing way to see more of the Greek islands without being limited to flight or ferry times. Plus a lot of times with bigger cruises, you only get a limited amount of time on the island. With Yacht Getaways, you pull into the island between 4 and 6 pm each day, so you have the evening, sunset, and all night to hang out on the island, and then if you want to go explore some more in the morning before breakfast you can too. We loved wandering the streets of the small island towns in the morning, because they were so quiet and no one was around and the streets smelled of baked goods.
During the day, we went to went to magical caves, snorkeled around a sunken WWII fighter jet, wandered through the ancient ruins of Delos, explored an abandoned prison, and saw dolphins out at sea! There’s also plenty of opportunities for diving or flipping off the boat, snorkeling, and paddle boarding. It’s basically the ultimate water holiday. If you’re looking to swim, relax, and cool off during the day and explore beautiful islands at night, you will not be disappointed.
We loved that we were able to visit and see islands that we had never even heard of and would have never known to go visit, like Koufonisia and Syros. Syros doesn’t even look like it belongs in Greece. It looks like an Italian island or like it’s part of the south of France. It was so amazing to see an island in Greece that looked so different from all of the other islands. It was seriously breath taking. As soon as we got there we knew we were going to want to go back and spend more time there. We also loved that we went to more well-known and bigger islands like Mykonos and Naxos, so we were able to get a good balance of everything in the area.
All of the islands had beautiful beaches and places to swim. And the towns were so charming that you could either just walk through the streets of town or rent ATVs and explore the entire island.
We honestly love sailing with Yacht Getaways, because it’s such an amazing and unique experience and there’s truly nothing else out there like it. It’s the perfect relaxing getaway and you get to choose how much you want to swim, explore, or relax on the boat. (All of the above for me please.)
Yacht Getaways has routes in Croatia, Italy, and Turkey. Read more about out our experience sailing in Croatia with them here: Sailing Around Croatia with Yacht Getaways.
Thanks Yacht Getaways for another amazing trip!
So beautiful!! What a dream. Adding to my wanderlust list!
It really is such a dream vacation! You should definitely add it to your list 😉
Very nice article, your pictures are so beautiful and represent perfectly the greek atmosphere!! The Cyclades are really amazing for sailing vacations, glad you enjoyed, as a sailor this is my favourite area.
Thank you so much! It’s seriously such a beautiful area to sail around! So glad you love it too!
Not long back from Rhodes. All inclusive. this does look so idyllic, but on ones own, it would be difficult in such confined spaces to enjoy with prodom……couples, as even in hotels you always feel a spare part !! Had contemplated an all inclusive Gullet Cruise round Turkey/Greek Islands, but when on a day trip on one in Turkey, upon seeing the accommodation, 2 weeks, 1 week, would be a push. I think I will stick to my day trips even on boats, yachts and a possible 2 week’s on a smallish cruse ship. It is ideal this type of holiday if as a couple/s, groups etc…..and a friend was on a slightly large boat going round Croatia and was more comfortable in mingling etc….Croatia, Is upon my own experience even off mid season, and especially Krocula (a mini Dubrovnik) is all you need if land bound. So really great article and fabulous images, I feel I’m there.
Thank you! Yes, this was a great experience and is definitely best suited for couples and friends. In our opinion, it’s much better than a large cruise. That’s just not our style!
